Many pagodas are built here, but you must visit the Shwedagon Pagoda. Apart from its gilded architecture, it is home to sacred relics of past Buddhas. Another mesmerizing pagoda that is a must visit is the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, which is built on top of a precariously balanced granite boulder that is covered with gold leaves normally pasted by devotees. Your visit here will not be completed without visiting the Shwethalyaung Buddha. This 55 metre long reclining Buddha was built in 994 and till today, remains one of the most popular attractions of the country. To experience the natural attractions of this country, visit the Inya Lake. Apart from its exquisite beauty it is also a popular spot for recreational activities. Do visit the Popa Mountain National Park which is home to various local species of flora and fauna.
With several cultural influences in the past, the Myanmar cuisines has a perfect blend of the Chinese, Indian and Mon tastes. While rice is common staple here, various other vegetables are also widely available here. Mohinga is a common dish normally served with chilli powder and coriander. The Onnokauswe is one interesting dish that is a must try. Often served with fried fruit fritters, gastronome adventurers can try the solidified duck blood. For a vegetarian delight do try the laphet thote. Wash down your meal with a cup of Yenwejan or even a cup of hot milk tea.
