It also boasts one of the best mountain bike parks in the world! A wonderful trip for all the family.
Head to the pretty town of Mayrhofen in the Zillertal Valley in Austria to experience the thrill of snowboarding right in the Austrian Alps. This has been a popular place for Brits since the 1970’s and is a wonderful place if you are after a relaxed atmosphere and a large amount of terrain, including the Hintertux glacier. The slopes aren’t tracked, making it the perfect escape, any time of the year.
Stowe, Vermont, United States:
If freestyle skiing is more your style then make your way to Stowe near Mount Mansfield in Vermont. Determine your skill level and head to either Spruce Peak (for beginners) or Front Four (for experts). And if you’d like another form of adrenaline rush, you can always try ice-climbing on Mount Mansfield, the tallest mountain in all of Vermont. A wonderful experience!
The Yabuli ski resort in north-east China is home to the largest ski run in the country, at an elevation of about 3000m. The resort provides great skiing all the way until March. Having hosted many skiing competitions previously including the Winter Asian Games, this is a great place to really enjoy this winter sport. And the entertainment facilities are also great with mini-golf, tennis, hot-air balloons and much more. A great choice!
Biathlon is the latest trend amongst winter sports’ enthusiasts and consists of a combination of cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. The best place to experience the thrill of this sport is Oberhorf in Germany, which is also home to the first ski tunnel in the country. Oberhof offers direct access to 8km of downhill skiing with 2 individual pistes served by 4 ski lifts.
New Paltz, New York, United States:
New Paltz, a village in Ulster County in the state of New York is home to the Shawangunk Ridge which is popular for rock-climbing and curling too! Played on sheets of ice, curling is a game where you slide flat round stones towards a target area using brooms. It’s really fun and the best part is that you can visit New Paltz throughout the year, and even learn how to curl from expert instructors who are on hand to help.
