Staycation... or overseas vacation?
A poll of 3,000 consumers by travel site simonseeks.com found that some people are prepared to cut back on areas such as going out and buying new clothes in order to take an overseas vacation.
The study also reveals that more than half of those surveyed who holidayed in the UK last year plan to travel abroad this year.
56% said they were willing to turn their backs on holidaying at home (staycations) in 2010 and plan to head for sun, sea and warmer climates, with Spain, USA and France emerging as the travel hotspots.
In order to save for a trip abroad:
41% will cut back on this year's holiday budget, saving an average of £391.
50% would cut back on entertainment and going out for a year.
50% of women would wear last year's winter wardrobe and avoid new purchases.
40% would do overtime to pay for a holiday.
14% would drop home improvements.
41% would start taking a packed lunch to work.
The study found a large proportion of consumers keen on money-saving schemes. Around two-thirds would be happy to wait until the last minute to book if it meant finding a cheaper deal. But they weren't prepared to cut the holiday short or downgrade their destination to save money.
Whilst we appreciate the need to give up short terms benefits for a holiday abroad, at Flexicover Direct, one thing we wouldn't suggest compromising on is the necessity of having adequate travel insurance protection.
