Sheena's Spa Weekend In Hampshire

Spa Weekend Hampshire

My husband and I recently had a wonderful two-night spa weekend away in Hampshire. We always look forward to a bit of R&R without the kids a couple of times a year.

Chewton Glen Hotel

We stayed at Chewton Glen Hotel, located on the fringe of the New Forest. This award winning, quintessentially English country house hotel and spa makes for the perfect weekend getaway. The hotel has been a member of Relais and Châteaux since 1971, an exclusive collection of over 500 of the world’s finest hotels and restaurants. I must admit we did very little exploring of the New Forest and a lot of resting. However, we did explore some of the beautiful grounds of the hotel, which boasts over 130 acres of woodland, gardens and parkland that make up the Chewton Glen Estate. The rest of the time we spent lazing in the wonderful spa and hydrotherapy pools and enjoyed the outdoor jacuzzi and had some great treatments.

Breakfast in the Dining Room at Chewton Glen, a large, open and airy space with great views of the open grounds, is relaxed and lazy. We spent one evening at the hotel having dinner in the wonderful Kitchen, an informal dining experience that allows you to watch the chefs at work via the open kitchen. Our second night was at a local eatery called the Jetty. This seafood restaurant is great and is perched on the waters edge in Christchurch, a ten minute drive from the hotel. Alex Aitken, one of the most renowned chefs in the South, heads the team here and the food was outstanding especially against the backdrop of the fabulous harbour views!

Active couples and families

For those who are more active, there are miles of coastline just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel and guests can enjoy a leisurely stroll to the beach at Highcliffe-on-Sea. A short drive away there are many seaside towns, perfect for families. The New Forest National Park is over 900,000 acres and there’s so much to explore and so much to do from hikes, walking trails, horse riding, cycling and even a New Forest Bus Tour. For keen golfers, Chewton Glen has a nine-hole par three golf course on site.

Surrounding Areas The surrounding areas of Chewton Glen are full of stunning country estates, family attractions, cathedrals, museums and so much more. Here are some places that may be well worth a visit:
