Mum's away day - 18th March 2012!

Are you looking for the perfect treat for your mum this Mother’s Day? Obviously you want to show your appreciation for everything she does, show that you value and love her. So why not treat her to something a little bit different to the usual flowers, chocolates or spa treatments?

Take her away for a few days to tell her how much you care. Just the two of you or the whole family, sharing the love has no limits!

The Flexicover Team suggest some great places to spoil your mum in Europe this year.

  1. Chocoholics in Zurich, Switzerland

  2. The culinary joys of chocolate are fantastic to experience in Switzerland. This Alpine nation has earned an international reputation for being at the forefront of producing high quality chocolate, so why not treat your mum to a break in this fabulous city where she can indulge in as much chocolate as her heart desires! Visit the chocolate factory just outside Zurich in Kilchberg run by Lindt & Sprungli, one of the world’s most famous chocolate producers. Enjoy free samples, go crazy in the chocolate shops, savour the fantastic aromas that invade the streets - and if it’s cold then don’t miss a divine hot chocolate for the perfect Mother’s Day treat!

  3. Wine tasting in Bordeaux, France

  4. Bordeaux wines are famous all over the world so for a special Mother’s Day reward, treat your mum to the joys of wine on a fabulous tour around some of Bordeaux’s vineyards. Visit the famous Médoc wine growing region, north of the city of Bordeaux, home to over 1500 vineyards. Learn about the region’s extraordinary wine heritage and enjoy wine tasting to your heart’s content. And of course there will be plenty of opportunities for tasting and buying lots to take home at a fraction of our high street prices! You will return home feeling refreshed, relaxed and probably an expert too. This wine capital of the world is perfect for a Mother’s Day weekend break!

  5. Hammam in Istanbul, Turkey

  6. If you haven’t been lucky enough to have a hammam (Turkish bath) before then now is an excellent time to do so! It involves relaxing, washing, bathing and scrubbing, rinsing and massaging of the whole body, a true pampering experience for any mum who deserves to be spoilt. Undertaken in a similar room to a steam bath or sauna, spend a few hours at a hammam and you will leave feeling relaxed, revitalised and glowing. Perfect for body and mind; any mum will delight in this treat!

  7. Giardino Giusti in Verona, Italy

  8. These gardens are simply beautiful and one of the most famous in Italy, a perfect treat for Mother’s Day. Designed in 1570 by Agostino Giusta they have been well preserved over the years and attract both tourists and locals alike. The grounds have a good contrast of well-kept, beautifully-trimmed hedges, gorgeous statues and fabulous fountains as well as wild and natural scenery. Climb the steep hill and discover the upper garden via the spiral staircase for the best views. A harmonious place for thinking, reflecting and taking in the beauty, it’s stunning all year round and sure to leave your mum speechless!

  9. Flamenco dancing in Andalucia, Spain

  10. If you want your mum to let her hair down and enjoy herself then consider visiting Andalucia in southern Spain, the birthplace of flamenco dancing. Flamenco is a genre of music, song and dance introduced by the Romani and its energetic style will have mum up and moving in no time! Whether you take a class or watch a flamenco show, you are bound to have lots of fun. Andalucían fiestas and celebrations are popular; join in the fun, and more importantly, laugh lots and let your mum enjoy herself, she deserves it!

  11. Shopping in Lisbon, Portugal

  12. Lisbon may not be the first city that springs to mind for a shopping destination in Europe, unlike Paris or Milan, but you may be pleasantly surprised. Let mum potter around the varied markets, small boutique shops and large international brand stores that this vibrant Portuguese capital has to offer. Take her to Baixa, the heart of the city that stretches from the riverfront to the main avenue ‘Avenida da Liberdade’ around which cluster the small traditional and specialist shops. Clothing, jewellery, shoes, handbags, antiques or Portuguese handicrafts, there is something for every mum – let her shop till she drops - and enjoy some well deserved retail therapy this Mother’s Day!

  13. Afternoon tea in London, England

  14. Which mum wouldn’t like to indulge in cakes, pastries and teas from all over the world? Originating in England and usually taken as a light snack between 2 and 5pm, afternoon tea is a fabulous treat for any mum, normally comprising sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, sweet pastries and cakes! Most reputable hotels in London boast great afternoon teas. For an absolute treat go to the Ritz Hotel in London but be sure to book well in advance!
