Low-budget hotels in New York

Low-budget hotels in New York Fitting in with its reputation as the city that never sleeps, it’s no surprise that New York is always a popular destination for New Year’s Eve. From house parties in Brooklyn to the famous Times Square celebrations, all of the five boroughs unite in one large party.

Actually it’s a great destination at any time of year but it’s definitely a tempting choice for a winter break.

For those on a budget, searching for a hotel in which to reside that doesn’t break the bank may leave you feeling like you’re looking for a needle in a haystack. So to help, the Flexicover team has hunted down some top budget-friendly options – perfect for New Year’s Eve, or sale shopping, or Valentine’s Day, or…

Pod, Brooklyn

Pod, Brooklyn

For a budget hotel that doesn’t compromise on sleek design, take a look at Pod in the hippest of all the districts, Williamsburg. Though the rooms are compact, a space-saving layout means that each square metre is utilised, allowing each pod to contain a private bathroom, flatscreen TV, plus room to leave your shopping. The room is kitted out in Scandinavian minimalist style, with on-trend colours and funky touches. Step out and you’ll be in the heart of the Brooklyn community, a vibrant area full of converted warehouse buildings, trendy bars and restaurants and a strong creative community. With double rooms from around £100 a night, it’s an excellent choice.
The Jane Hotel, West Village

The Jane Hotel, West Village

Often cited as one of the best budget hotels in New York, the two-star Jane Hotel is a gem of a find. The rooms are small, the bathrooms are shared, but its West Village riverside location is a huge plus, especially as no one goes to New York to hang out in their hotel room. If the location doesn’t impress, the rich history of the six-floor, red-brick building is attraction enough: it was first built to accommodate sailors, it wound up taking in many Titanic survivors and it’s now decked out with a blend of both bohemian and urban decor. Most of the rooms are priced from around £100 and are in the style of ship cabins, with bunk beds predominant. But couples can pick a much-more spacious Captain’s Cabin, which at twice the price, is still extremely competitive for Manhattan.
Fairfield Inn & Suites, Downtown East

Fairfield Inn & Suites, Downtown East

If a more conventional hotel is preferred, try Fairfield Inn & Suites . Part of the Marriott group, it enjoys the benefits of a three-star hotel, like a gym, business centre, modern furnishings and free Wi-Fi, as well as extra perks, like in-room microwaves and mini-fridges to help contain the budget further. It also has a very convenient location: right near Chinatown, it’s close to the action in Manhattan, but its soundproofed walls and windows aid a comfy night’s sleep. Double rooms are a spacious size for New York and its air conditioning is a boon during the sticky summer months. You can find great deals on Fairfield Inn & Suites so hunt around before booking – prices start from £78.
Seton Hotel, Midtown

Seton Hotel, Midtown

Just two blocks from New York’s Grand Central, the Seton Hotel is not only well-located, but is a boutique find with luscious décor and velvety furnishings. Guests can forgo a private bathroom for the budget option, though they have a number of room types to please all budgets. The recently-refurbished rooms are individually designed to make the most of the space, but they all boast free Wi-Fi and flatscreen TVs, with a guest lounge in which to linger if the rooms don’t cut it. Prices are from £129.
Cassa Hotel, Times Square

Cassa Hotel, Times Square

Another conveniently located option is Cassa Hotel, around the corner from the tourist hotspot of Times Square. Plan in advance and shop around for the best prices - they begin at £110. For this, you’ll get a clean and comfortable stay in the heart of New York and a delicious continental breakfast to fuel the day’s adventure. The piece de résistance is their rooftop terrace with a bar, hot tub and incredible views of central Manhattan – perfect for admiring the fireworks on New Year’s Eve.
