Historically it used to mark the edge of the city’s defences until the fortifications were demolished in 1864. This traffic-free zone runs from the main train station down towards the waters of Lake Zurich. Stroll its tree-lined length or catch a tram to admire boutiques for Swiss watches, top designer clothes, high-end shoe shops, jewellery stores amongst the aroma of great Swiss coffee and chocolates!

5th Avenue is one of main attractions in New York and a real shopper’s paradise. This is one of the oldest shopping streets in the downtown area of the Icelandic capital. Bounded on each end by a prominent city square, the 1.1km street stretches from City Hall in the west to Kongens Nytorv and the Charlottenberg Palace in the east. Strolling the Strøget takes in several smaller side streets with numerous independent local stores as well as several of the city’s beautiful sights and plenty of cafes and street performers too!
