Fun in the winter sun

Just because the dark evenings have drawn in and the weather’s turned colder, there’s no need to think that you’re done with the sun for the year. There are still plenty of opportunities to get away and enjoy that tropical break as the sun shines overhead and warms you up!

Guaranteed warmth, soft sea breezes and sunset cocktails taken overlooking sandy beaches can be more than just a dream in these frosty months. Winter hasn’t meant only ski holidays for a long time now – there’s a huge variety of places that you can head to. So, grab a brochure or fire up your browser and start looking!

And for a few possibilities, the Flexicover Team discovers some great places for that winter sunshine.

Goa

The smallest of India’s states sits on the western coast and blends its Portuguese heritage into something unique with jungles, waterfalls, beaches, temples and a temperate climate all in the mix. The southern part of the state is the ideal location for relaxing in the soft heat and, with 66 miles of coastline, you can swing lazily on a beachside hammock under lush palm trees and take things easy! For more action, stay in northern Goa, where the nightlife is superb offering fabulous dining options and vibrant markets to explore. The ideal tourist season is between November and March with temperatures around 27 degrees… We know where we would like to be!

Barbados

Sun seekers are bound to be attracted to the Caribbean climate as it serves up great weather and slow-paced island life. Enjoy powder-white sand, a rum punch and lots of down time on the edge of warm blue waters – Barbados is an ideal winter sun destination. Coral reefs dot the shoreline making snorkelling and scuba diving popular. Or explore the island’s colonial history and sample some local delights in its soul food and famed nightlife. Whether it’s a romantic getaway or family fun, there is something for everyone in Barbados!

Mauritius

This Indian Ocean jewel is often described as an ‘island of paradise’ and with dazzling beaches, an array of water sports including windsurfing and diving, golf courses and stunning views, this comes as no surprise. Mauritius boasts year round sunshine which attracts millions of visitors annually. From lazing around the pool in comfortable hotels or trekking and mountain biking, you can do as little or as much as you fancy amidst gorgeous seascapes and rolling countryside views that will take your breath away!

Malta

The seven islands that comprise this Mediterranean archipelago definitely punch above their weight when it comes to much-desired winter sun! With a rich history, some of the world’s most ancient buildings and monuments plus culturally important villages and temples, it’s a magical place for a break. Enjoy long, lingering, warm morning walks or simply explore the historically significant capital city of Valletta. Tour the island on a horse-driven carriage with your partner for a joyous trip with colourful landmarks and their Christmas festivities are great fun as well!

Laos

At the heart of Indochina, Laos is an undiscovered gem. With an abundance of pristine, natural beauty, friendly people, old-fashioned charm and a relaxed pace of life, this destination is fast earning cult status amongst travellers after years of isolation. Take a boat ride down the Mekong River, which runs the length of the country, for a stunning sunset view and visit the main UNESCO World Heritage city of Luang Prabang for its enchanting temples. Walk the archaeological site of the Plain of Jars and don’t miss Asia’s biggest waterfall at Khone Phapheng. This is a winter sun destination with a lot of difference!

Wherever your travels take you this winter and whichever destination you are lucky enough to visit, we atFlexicover Team are committed to providing you the highest level of protection to ensure that you are safe and secure, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year when away.
