Extended kennel and / or cattery fees
Whilst away you may have pets at home that are being looked after in a kennel or cattery and some travel insurance policies will include a benefit that will pay an amount for pet insurance cover. There may be extra cattery fees or kennel fees that are payable if you are delayed in returning home from your holiday due to bodily injury, illness or disease.
This is not a standard addition to a travel insurance policy but cattery fees and looking after a domestic dog/cat can prove expensive without this cover in place.
On agreement to cover your fees you must send the insurer written confirmation (at your own expense) from the appropriate kennel or cattery confirming the amount of additional fees that you have had to pay together with the dates for which these were payable.
Cover may not be possible if there is a
- Claim for your bodily injury, illness or disease that is not covered under the Emergency medical and other expenses section of the policy.
- Anything mentioned in the General exclusions.
It will be necessary to provide documentation to support your claim and this may consist of a medical certificate from the treating medical practitioner explaining why you were unable to return home on time and also your unused travel tickets. The insurer will advise on anything further that they need.
