Excellent Easter breaks!

Easter’s just a few weeks away, on the first weekend in April, so it’s a great time to make the most of the school holidays and take a well-deserved break. It’s estimated that 7% of the adult population look to take an overnight trip in the UK and a further 9% are pondering about whether to take a trip over the Bank Holiday weekend.

As usual, the first decision is where and for how long - a long weekend in Europe, a week exploring somewhere cultural or even 2 weeks somewhere sunny and long-haul. There’s always that experience of a lifetime too. Maybe your fancy is piqued by Easter Island to marvel at the moai and explore the hidden caves and unusual lava tubes!

The Flexicover Team looks at some great places that would be perfect for an April getaway.

Costa de la Luz, Spain

The advent of the summer season is a great time to visit the Mediterranean. The weather is ideal with little humidity and the countryside is gorgeously verdant. Spain is a wonderfully diverse destination and the Costa de la Luz (the Atlantic-facing part of the Andalusían coastline) boasts unspoilt beaches, which are among the finest on the Iberian Peninsula. Long popular with Spanish holidaymakers, it hasn’t yet been taken over by high rises and holiday crowds. It’s especially noted for a number of beautiful nature reserves like the Doñana National Park and the salt marshes of Barbate. And for a taste of the area’s long history, visit the preserved Roman ruins at Baelo Claudio. Brighten your Easter on the Coast of Light!

Cayman Islands, British Overseas Territories

Made up of three islands in the western Caribbean Sea (Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman), it’ll be hard not to fall in love with their splendour and friendly people. The laid back way of life, scenery and chance to swim with stingrays are just some things bound to captivate you. For beach lovers, the famous Seven Mile Beach is a 9km crescent which features often in the lists of the Caribbean’s best beaches! For more active explorers, there’s the elegant capital George Town and a climb to the top of the Observation Tower in Camana Bay for superb panoramic views. And in the evenings, indulge in culinary delights, great entertainment and a vibrant night life scene. Bank on having an untaxing break here!

Mauritius

In the Indian Ocean, nearly 2000km from the east coast of Africa, the sun-soaked island of Mauritius basks in temperatures around 29°C. This former French and British colony is home to some of the world’s rarest flora and fauna making for a delightful visit to one of the national parks. It’s a great place for families, friends and couples alike and would be a real treat of a retreat this Easter. Play golf on courses boasting tropical ocean views, explore the botanical gardens with its wonderful water lilies, relax reading on immaculate white sand beaches or party until the early hours on a night out in Grand Baie. Make this your key trip in 2015 and it’ll be sure to star highly in your memories!

Boston, USA

Boston is easily one of the most historic and influential cities in the USA. From the early days of a nascent nation to the thriving cultural and academic hub it is today, you can explore this charming city and see for yourself how it lives up to its nickname of the ‘Little Big City’. Modern skyscrapers share streets with picturesque colonial buildings making the place a wonderful blend of old and new. Explore the ‘other Cambridge’ to tour Harvard University, follow the historic Freedom Trail and have your photo taken at the famous Cheers bar! If you’re a sports fan, head out to Fenway Park, home of the world-renowned Boston Red Sox baseball team since 1912. Head Stateside this Easter if you harbour desires for a trip that is bound to fit you to a T!

Paxos, Greece

Paxos is one of the smallest Ionian Islands (measuring just 10km by 4km) but its scenic beauty makes it that wonderful well-kept secret for those really wanting to experience true Greek charm. There isn’t an airport but it’s accessible by hydrofoil from Corfu or Igoumenitsa on the mainland. Explore the chief town of Gaios where the waterfront is lined with charming taverns serving delicious Greek classics! Olive groves line the rocky hillsides and boat launches allow you explore the rugged coastline and sea caves. The island’s mythology says that the sea god Poseidon cleaved Paxos out of Corfu so as to create the perfect peaceful home for him and his wife - a sentiment you’re hopefully bound to agree with!

Wherever your travels take you this Easter, we at Flexicover are committed to providing you with the highest level of protection to ensure that you are safe and secure, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year when away.
