When thinking of European city breaks, many automatically think of Paris, Rome and London! Whilst these cities are wonderfully charming, there are some great alternative destinations for adventurous travel.

Whilst each town is different with its own personality, they are usually all visited in one trip and you can walk from the first to the fifth in a matter of hours. This is the perfect destination for nature lovers, hikers and for those wanting a relaxed and calming break away. The unique mix of Italian culture and nature is second to none. With pristine clear sea and a high percentage of natural preservations, the Cinque Terre makes for a great break away!
Located between the majestic mountains and the endless sea in the central western Portuguese coast just a short drive from Lisbon, this gem of a destination provides its visitors with a wonderful adventure. Mixed with several historical heritages, breathtaking nature and an urban culture, Sintra is like a page torn from a fairy tale. Sintra-Vila, its Unesco World Heritage listed centre is beautiful, romantic and sophisticated. An ideal place for a day trip, or if time allows, a few days!
Porto Santo, Portugal
Porto, the second largest city in Portugal and part of the Portuguese archipelago near the coast of Africa, makes for an excellent European break. Its volcanic sands are rumoured to have healing and curative powers, thereby making it a destination mostly for travellers who seek a relaxing journey. A charismatic city and a World Heritage Site this is a great one for a weekend break.
Santorini is a beautiful crescent shaped Greek island located in the southern Aegean Sea and an ideal place for relaxation, unwinding and soaking up some quaint culture and tradition. With cobbled streets, whitewashed villages and blue domed churches, it makes for a wonderful break away. The nearby islands of Palea and Nea Kameni are also lovely to visit! This is a great choice – and don’t miss a visit to the northern town of Ola, perched on a cliff top, the sunset from here is breath-taking!
