Due to its large and expansive size, the Dominican Republic is one of the most diverse countries in the Caribbean and offers not just miles of beautiful sandy beaches and coastal areas but also mangrove lagoons, mountain peaks and waterfalls inland. There is something for everyone here from All inclusive hotels to family friendly hotels and luxurious spa resorts. A great year-round destination for those who want a warm getaway!
Known as the silver city on the amber coast, Puerto Plata is the oldest city in the north of the Dominican Republic and a great place to visit with many things to do. Explore the town, wander through the lively old quarter, visit rum factories and take the famous cable car up to Mount del Torres for great views. Spend time enjoying Puerto Plata’s breezes and gentle swells that have made kite surfing and windsurfing well-renowned. For spectacular scenery and to really take in the region’s native flora and fauna, take a guided hike or go mountain biking. Spend your evenings enjoying fabulous food in great restaurants then enjoy the beach nightlife that kicks in well into the wee hours.
With Punta Cana just think Sun, Sea and Sand! Located on the eastern edge of the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana is made up of 30 resorts and is a place where the A listers love to lounge! Most of the shorelines here are backed by nut bearing palm trees, therefore earning the name of the ‘Coconut Coast’ in the region. This is a real Caribbean paradise and if relaxation is key for you, this has to be your place. Attracting honeymooners, couples and families all year round, the turquoise seas here are hard not to love. The white sands stretch 50km along the Dominican coast making this an ideal place for water sports too. While the beaches are a treat for the eyes, the hotels here are heaven for the soul. A great pick for 2015!
La Romana is best described as a “bustling city that surrounds the Rio Chavon”. It is the 3rdlargest city in the Dominican Republic and boasts busy markets, colonial style churches, cigar shops and cobbled streets. The marina has a number of swanky restaurants and great bars and is a tourist hotspot. Aside from the city, La Romana is also well renowned for being ‘beach central.’ Known for great tropical tours, water sports, sailing, fishing, nightlife and upscale beachfront resorts, this is a wonderful holiday destination for sun lovers.
The Dominican Republic is a great travel destination for 2015 and you can often bag yourself a bargain so be sure to book early. Remember to take your Flexicover travel insurance with you too!
