Departure point

If you miss your departure your missed departure travel insurance will provide you with compensation for up to the amount shown in the summary of cover. The amount will be any reasonable additional accommodation (room only) and travel expenses necessarily incurred in reaching your overseas destination or returning to your home area if you fail to arrive at the international departure point in time to board the public transport on which you are booked to travel on the initial international journey of the trip. This will apply if there is:-

  1. the failure of other public transport or
  2. an accident to or breakdown of the vehicle in which you are travelling or
  3. an accident or breakdown happening ahead of you on a public road which causes an unexpected delay to the vehicle in which you are travelling or
  4. strike, industrial action or adverse weather conditions.

You may claim only under one part of the policy for an event either Missed departure or, Delayed Departure.

If you are a Channel Islands resident travelling outside the United Kingdom then this cover only applies to the outward and inward journey from and to the United Kingdom.

You must allow enough time for public transport or other transport to arrive on schedule and to deliver you to your departure point.

Any claim that is made on your missed departure travel insurance will need to be supported by documentation and examples of the type of documentation required will be explained in your policy document. There will be circumstances that are not covered by these sections of the policy and these should be checked in your policy wording before setting out.
