Christmas tips in the final stretch!

With less than a week to go before Christmas, your preparations are no doubt well under way but even the most meticulously planned events are susceptible to various hitches.

Maybe it’s a trip to the shops for a last minute present or having to tweak the menu for the "big day". Coupled with defrosting the turkey, arranging food deliveries, keeping everyone entertained and queues everywhere – it can be nerve-wrecking!

But remember, this is a time to enjoy, to spend quality time with family and friends and most importantly, for us all to unwind and relax too. So whatever event you have planned this year, you might find these final tips prepared by the Flexicover Team handy for a memorable Christmas!

Take some fun photos

The Christmas tree is beautifully decorated with tender loving care and attention, tinsel and other decorations gaily adorn your home and the fairy lights are bright and shining… so it’s a perfect time to get some memorable snaps for the family album! Arrange some shots with all the family and friends who visit during this joyous season. The pictures will serve as great memories in time to come and can make great gifts for personalised cards and calendars for the next year too! Make sure the batteries are fully charged, put your Christmas hats on and get festively snap happy!

Plan to entertain

If Christmas is a time when your home is full of visitors, you may want to keep them entertained between meals or just out of the kitchen! Whether it’s fun games everyone can join in like Scrabble, playing cards or Monopoly, or films you want to watch over the break, plan ahead so you can do things together. Don’t forget to dig out the Christmas CDs and play your festive favourites or maybe go to a carol service to really get everyone feeling the spirit!

Relax and take time for yourself

Take some me-time! If you’re the one everyone looks to for direction then this should be at the top of your list - it’s what the Christmas break is for! It’s good to be able to bring joy to your loved ones so spend part of it doing the things you like with the people you love. Our day-to-day lives are always so busy - so take time out for yourself. Have a lie in, book a massage, go shopping, eat your favourite treats or go for a long winter walk followed by a quiet drink at your favourite pub, hand-in-hand with your partner. In whatever way, big or small, enjoy your break!

Cook or bake something new

Christmas is a great time to try out a new recipe! Try baking that treat you have always fancied but have held off because it wasn’t a special enough occasion. Perhaps there’s one that’s been languishing in your recipe folder for that ever-later date. Rustle up something new to introduce a surprise to the habitual fare. Have a go at cookies in Christmas shapes, try your hand at homemade marzipan for a stollen or a dessert, get stuck in – you will wow your family and who knows, you might just discover your new signature dish!

Try a new activity

Use this Christmas break to try a new activity, perhaps there’s something you’ve always wanted to do but just haven’t had a chance. Whether that’s a round of golf, signing up for an art class, joining a reading group or going ice skating with the kids – do something fun! Pick up your local paper or scan online listings for some new ideas - you never know, it might end up as your new favourite hobby!
