Don’t believe us? Just check out some of the best experiences you can enjoy with the whole family during your Belize holidays in 2015:
Exploring Mayan Ruins:
Belize was home to a number of Mayan settlements and one of the most popular things to do in Belize is climbing and exploring these ruins by foot. Belize Mayan ruins can be found in the northern and western part of the country and you can climb and explore many of them by foot. In Northern Belize you can visit Altun Ha and Lamanai, which are home to plazas, pyramids and residential areas with the former even housing a unique ball court and stelae. Across the Mopan River, in the village of San Jose Succotz, you can visit Xunantunich, a Mayan site with an impressive main pyramid which is located in Western Belize. As is the Caracol, the largest Mayan site in the country which boasts of the tallest Mayan structure in Belize – its main pyramid called Caana or ‘Sky Palace’. The most fascinating site to view Mayan relics during your holidays in Belize though, is Actun Tunichil Muknal, commonly referred to as ATM, a cave that contains preserved Mayan skeletons, ceramic and stone items.
Cave tubing in Belize is a fun experience to enjoy on your family adventure holidays. It involves floating on an inner tube in water-filled caves where you can explore surreal locales with towering stalagmites, dripping stalactites and aquatic life. One of the best places you can go cave tubing is in the Nohoch Che’en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve, which is home to the Caves Branch River that flows through about 5 eerily beautiful limestone caves. Some of these caves were sacred to the ancient Mayans and as you enjoy the wonderful experience of cave tubing, you’ll even be able to witness some amazing Mayan cave paintings, a great Belize travel experience
Diving Around the Great Blue Hole:
Belize offers world-class diving opportunities and some incredible underwater sights and experiences. One of the best dives you can have, not just in the country, but on the entire planet, is diving around The Great Blue Hole in Belize, a submarine sinkhole that is 1000 feet wide and 412 feet deep. More suited to experienced divers, this is the largest formation of its type in the world and located about 70 kilometres from Belize City. Belize diving is not an activity you can afford to miss on your Belize holidays.
