2015 holiday hotspots

Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful festive break and are ready for the challenges and joys that 2015 will bring.

If you’re still in the mood to party, then the Lunar New Year Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) pops up in February. Celebrated around the world, it’s another 15 days of festivities. And it’ll go off with a bang if you’re in Hong Kong at this time, as Victoria Harbour hosts a massive celebratory fireworks party!

Now is also a good time to plan your 2015 holiday schedule. With so many special holiday offers nowadays, we’re somewhat spoilt for choice. The Flexicover Team looks at some of the top summer destinations for 2015!

Da Nang, Vietnam

Located on its eastern coast, Da Nang is Vietnam’s third largest city and a major port on the South China Sea. Known for its gorgeous beaches, culinary tours, Buddhist sanctuaries and charming French colonial buildings, it makes a wonderful escape for young and old alike. The city is changing rapidly with modern hotels, apartments and restaurants emerging along the Han riverfront and a new international airport opened in 2012, boosting tourist numbers year on year. With over 18 miles of golden coastline, calm emerald waters and a backdrop of lush verdant forest, this is a great pick for a 2015 holiday!

Bodrum, Turkey

Bodrum, on the south-west coast of Turkey is an ideal seaside getaway, attracting more than a million tourists each year. From its quaint cafes and restaurants to a vibrant nightlife, it’s a great place for friends, couples and all the family. Visitors, including many celebrities, are attracted by its year-round, warm Mediterranean climate. If you’re able to visit, enjoy the blend of traditional and modern with battlegrounds, palaces and castles as well as sleek boutiques and a glittering marina. And make sure you visit Bodrum Castle, with its Museum of Underwater Archaeology!

Naha, Japan

The capital and largest city of Okinawa Prefecture is a thriving, rapidly expanding urban centre on the East China Sea. Action is centred around Kokusai-dori, the 1.6km international boulevard where hotels, bars, restaurants and souvenir shops sprawl in abundance. Naha boasts a lively atmosphere with an interesting mix of Japanese, American and the local Ryukyu culture. Visit the centrepiece of the medieval Ryukyu Kingdom, Shuri Castle which is a top attraction having been restored after near-complete destruction at the Battle of Okinawa in 1945!

Limassol, Cyprus

For a fantastic blend of relaxation, ancient culture and history, make Limassol your destination for 2015. A busy port on the south coast of Cyprus, this is the island’s biggest resort with a vast choice of attractions, such as the Amathus Archaeological site housing the ruins of the Temple of Aphrodite, nearby Kolossi Castle, stronghold of the Knights Hospitaller or Kourion which hosts impressive musical and theatrical events in its Greco-Roman amphitheatre. Spend your evenings in pavement cafes and charming local tavernas whilst indulging in delicious mezzes. A great idea for a cultural summer holiday this year!

Manaus, Brazil

Located at the confluence of two Amazonian tributaries in the middle of the rainforest, Manaus is the largest city and commercial hub for the Amazon region. The city has some wonderful sights including the Opera House, a grand marble-halled building that puts on some great shows. The recently-improved transportation system allows visitors to better navigate the city and region, helping make its ancient culture, art and authentic dining more accessible. Explore the jungle on a guided backpacking tour, take a river tour or just admire Nature’s beauty - this is a destination like no other!
