Travel this April
The end of April is nigh. Easter starts on the 24th, the royal wedding takes centre stage on the 29th and Monday 2nd May is another Bank Holiday.
Many of us will be tempted to go away between these dates for a ‘highly extended’ weekend!
So why not consider some of the following ‘short break’ destinations for your time off in April...
Istanbul, Turkey - Shopping Festival
2011 is the first shopping festival, intended to be an annual event, in Turkey’s biggest city. There will be competitions, fashion shows, concerts and entertainment for thousands of visitors and the shopping centres will be open until late, some even for 24 hours! Temperatures will be pleasant and you can 'shop 'til you drop' in last year's European Capital of Culture! Whether it’s clothes, antiques, spices or furniture you are after – you are sure to pick up a bargain. Look out for the daily prizes awarded to shoppers!
Genoa, Italy – Art Exhibitions
Want to see the quintessential Italy? Genoa is a must! This beautiful city in northern Italy is a fantastic place to visit all year round, especially in April for its art exhibitions. Don’t miss 'The Mediterranean', open until 1st May at the Palazzo Ducale that includes representations of the magic of the Mediterranean Sea by various artists including Coubert, Cézanne, Renoir and Van Gogh.
Seville, Spain – Holy Week
Known as 'Semana Santa' in Spain, this is one of the most important and traditional celebrations in Seville. The Holy Week, from the 17th – 24th of April, leading up to Easter is full of energy, processions and bands, for the thousands of people who line the streets. Join in to watch the elaborate festivities and to soak up the electric atmosphere.
Spitsbergen, Norway - Dog Sledding
Home to glaciers, alpine valleys, polar bears and ringed seals, if it’s Arctic adventure you are after then travel to Spitsbergen, the largest and only permanently populated island of the Svalbard Archipelago in Norway. April is a great time to go - experience the solitude and serenity of the Arctic and enjoy authentic dog sledding adventures.
Antigua, Antigua & Barbuda – Sailing Week
April is a fantastic time to be in Antigua – perfect weather before the real humidity sets in. Sailing Week for the Yacht Regatta is from the 24 - 29th of April and doubles up as a fabulous social event when the island comes alive with a buzz of its own. The island will be hosting people from all over the world so experience Antigua’s true hospitality! Enjoy the food, drink, parties, marinas, forts and beaches of this thriving Caribbean island.
Wherever you decide to travel in April, Flexicover Direct, the travel insurance specialist, is committed to providing the highest level of service to ensure that when away, you are safe and secure, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
