Happy Holidays!

The festive time is upon us once more and we wonder ‘where has the year gone?’ Christmas is a magical time of year but the frenzy of shopping and preparations at home can sometimes get too stressful.

Why not relax and treat yourself to a Christmas break? It may be just what the doctor ordered and could make a great Christmas present for the entire family.

The Flexicover Team has located some great places to visit.

Hang out with Santa in Lapland, Finland

Enjoy a ‘traditional’ Christmas in the place Saint Nick calls home! You can experience the breathtaking Arctic landscape with snow-covered forests and hundreds of frozen lakes. There is so much for the whole family; take a husky ride or reindeer-driven sleighs, zip about the natural winter wonderland on a snowmobile and catch the spectacular natural phenomenon, the aurora borealis (Northern Lights). And of course meet the big guy in person - Lapland is a place where Christmas can truly be an experience like no other!

A fairytale in New York, USA

When it comes to celebrating Christmas, who better to turn to than New Yorkers and, as you would expect, the city pulls out all the stops this time of year. The Big Apple really lights up, with huge Christmas trees and miles of lights (we’d hate to think what the electricity bill amounts to!) not to mention its world-famous shopping… It’s not hard to see why so many people visit the city during the seasonal break. Go for a ride on a horse-drawn carriage through Central Park, ice-skate at the Rockefeller Center, have a shopping spree in Macy’s and then an eggnog latte in Bloomingdale’s for a perfect Christmas treat!

Shopping at the Christkindlmarkt, Vienna, Austria

A Christkindlmarkt is a street market associated with the celebration of Christmas. Starting at the end of November through to Christmas Day you can find such markets on nearly every street corner of the city. One that comes highly recommended for your Christmas shopping is the one at the Spittelberg – unlike most of the others it is not located in one big square but is made up of lots of small shops on narrow, granite stone-paved alleyways, niches and courtyards helping to generate a great festive atmosphere. What a cultural feast!

A bright Christmas in the Canary Islands, Spain

If the snow isn’t for you, how about some relaxing winter sun? The Canary Islands is one of the most popular Christmas vacation destinations in Europe. The islands are a paradise for sunseekers and cultural enthusiasts alike, with museums, mountains ranges, quaint villages and of course the beautiful sandy beaches where you can sunbathe and relax as well as indulge in a variety of water sports all year round. This year maybe you can meet Santa on the beach!

Skiing in the Alps – ‘White Christmas’ guaranteed...

There can be few more magical places in which to spend your Christmas holidays than a snowy ski resort. Some people may be concerned about the likelihood of good snow cover early in the ski season but not to worry, Flexicover has done the research… Your best bet is Obergurgl, one of Europe's highest villages and open for skiing from November. And to be on the safe side, more than 99% of all slopes in the area are equipped with artificial snow-making systems, so you are guaranteed a White Christmas come what may!

Whatever your plan for the holiday season, if you decide to travel, Flexicover Direct, the travel insurance specialist, is committed to providing the highest level of service to ensure that you are safe and secure, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year when away.
