Beautiful, sunny beaches
With our passion for the Summer sun (a luxury we dream of all year), preparations for our Great Escape are just round the corner. In reality, most popular destinations get really busy, especially during peak travelling periods, when the schools break up.
However, there are some great hidden gems all over Europe, which offer a bit more peace and plenty of time to soak up that sun and relax.
So if you don’t fancy laying your towel next to a stranger on the packed sands of Europe, as all the deckchairs went before breakfast, the Flexicover Team considers these Shangri-La - come-home destinations.
Plage de Saleccia; Corsica, France
This beach near St-Florent, in the north-western part of the Mediterranean island of Corsica, is a beautiful undeveloped stretch of dazzling white sand on the edge of the Désert des Agriates. Whilst it can be tricky to access (boat or yacht only), once you’re there it’s a mile-long desert dream and great for anyone who wants total relaxation and peace. Make sure you take your own shade, though; the sun can be extremely strong! But it’s definitely, peace in our lifetime!
Cala Xarraca; Ibiza, Spain
This beautiful bay in the north of the island has crystal-clear waters and makes a great place to relax, sunbathe and snorkel. This secretive getaway, distant from other parts of Ibiza that have adapted to the needs of mass tourism, is surrounded by green forest areas and you’ll find natural mud baths too! That explains why it’s also a popular place for photographers! A fabulous escape and a great find amongst the rocks. Benidorm, eat your heart out!
Capo Vaticano; Calabria, Italy
Located in southern Italy, in the region of Calabria, the beaches of Capo Vaticano are extremely popular. With stunning natural scenery stretching along the coastline from Tono Bay to Virgin Mary Bay and some great swimming and sunbathing spots, it’s no surprise the local folk would like this kept a secret! Cape Vaticano’s focal point is the white granite outcrop that forms the ‘Cape’ and is of particular geological interest. With a great climate most of the year round, it will make a great escape for your summer holiday this year! A real treat!
Myrtos Beach; Kefalonia, Greece
Myrtos Beach, in the north-west of the island of Kefalonia, is one of the most dramatic beaches in Greece, nestled between mountains and open to the beauty of the Ionian Sea. You will understand why this won’t stay a secret for long; it’s a beautiful hidden cove with an impressive beach shaped by the peculiarity of the shoreline and tidal energies! Film fanatics may recognise it from the mine explosion in Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. A visit here makes for a truly memorable experience on your holiday!
St Peter’s Pool, Malta
If you want to spend a relaxing day away from tourists, this beautiful natural pool will be right up your street. With fantastic azure waters of superb clarity, it makes for perfect swimming, sunbathing and snorkelling too! Visited by locals and tourists looking for peace and tranquillity, it really is a great hidden gem and showcases the Mediterranean at its best. Be sure to take your own food and water though, as services are sparse in this beautifully remote part of the island!
Whichever beach you are fortunate enough to visit this summer Flexicover, the travel insurance specialists are committed to providing you the highest level of protection to ensure that you are safe and secure, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year when away.
