Revel in these sunny revelations!

Just the vaguest thought of warmer and brighter climes is enough to send us to the travel catalogues and websites at this particularly inclement time of year. There are probably few amongst us who wouldn’t be happy to hang up the raincoat or stow the gloves, even for a short time, at the moment.

The American city of Yuma, in southwestern Arizona, is the sunniest place on Earth, recording over 4,000hrs of sunlight per year and roughly 90% of daylight hours see it shining through a clear blue sky. A perfect place to forego the raincoat and work on your tan! And if you don’t fancy the desert heat, there are many other places around the world where you can pretty much expect to experience sunshine all year long.

So, if you want to fly to the sun this year, the Flexicover Team looks at some choice offerings!

1 Puerto Rico

The ‘Island of Enchantment’ lies in the north-western Caribbean and offers year-round sunshine for your delight. No chance of snow here - just white sandy beaches, sizzling sun and shady palm trees! The summer months can get a bit humid but the warmth on offer is truly delectable. Beach fans will particularly want to check out the beautiful Ocean Park, Luquillo or Pine Grove beaches. For a bit more fun, play volleyball, swim with dolphins and visit the rainforest or the capital city of San Juan for a slice of history. Enjoy some lovingly restored European architecture combined with old Spanish charm and buildings spanning four centuries of a colonial past. All in all, a perfect Caribbean destination!

2 Belize

Bordered by Mexico, Guatemala and the Caribbean Sea, this small country in Central America is an exotic destination, enjoying a tropical climate with an average yearly temperature of 29°C. In fact, there’s only about 4 degrees difference between the coolest month (January) and the warmest (May). Belize boasts great natural beauty and cultural diversity, as well as being framed by luscious jungles on one side and the serenity of the Caribbean Sea on the other. Enjoy its golden beaches, tropical rainforests and don’t miss the Belize Barrier Reef, the second longest in the world, home to over 100 kinds of coral and 500 species of fish! And if you’re an experienced diver, explore the caves of the world-renowned Blue Hole for an abundance of aquatic wonder!

3 Fiji

Fiji is a paradise long extolled in travelogues and popular culture with thousands of miles of pristine white sands in the tropics of the South Pacific. A sprawling archipelago of around 333 islands floating in turquoise waters makes this a perfect retreat for honeymooners, couples and sun seekers. The largest island is being Viti Levu, home to most of the population and the capital, Suva. Visit the town of Nadi to see the largest Hindu temple in the Pacific and walk through the gorgeous Garden of the Sleeping Giant. Other tourist highlights are the Mamanuca islands and Yasawa with their tropical scenery, waterfalls and mountain Rivers showcasing some of the region’s best natural beauty. Enjoy this idyllic escape and bask in the genuine hospitality on offer!

4 KwaZulu Natal, South Africa

Located in the southeast of the country and enjoying a long shoreline on the Indian Ocean, this gorgeous province of South Africa makes for a wonderful holiday. Durban, the largest city in the region, enjoys 320 days of sunshine annually with temperatures ranging from 16-25°C in winter and from 23-33°C in the summer. Tropical rains sometimes affect the area between November and April but the temperature rarely drops. 5 Whitsunday Islands, Australia

Located off northeast Queensland, the 74 islands that form the Whitsunday group are a real tropical paradise. Forming part of the Great Barrier Reef, the waters surrounding these islands are still, making this one of Australia’s most popular destinations. Stunning beaches - including the brilliant sands of Whitehaven - and secluded bays make this perfect for all lovers of sand and sea. Average temperatures are 27°C and, in January, its summer temperatures soar over 30°C for blissful warmth! Most of the islands are vibrant nature reserves and in June/July each year, the islands host the Outrigger Cup which sees traditional canoes competing in a variety of sailing events.
