Cool wining and dining
Whilst on holiday, if you are always looking for quirky charming cafes and restaurants then we have just what you are looking for.
Close to home you can find Inamo’s at Regent Street where every table has a custom projected display where you can order food, a drink and taxis. Choose a virtual tablecloth and play battleships against the person opposite.
Another quirky find is CATs in Haringey. It’s a blink and you'll miss it kind of a place. With much to see it's a wooden wonderland, with tables made of old farm carts, gold Buddhas, porcelain cats giant colourful fans on the wall, clocks and statues and other such eclectic paraphernalia - with the odd bit of neon thrown in. The food is Thai, cooked to order, and is every bit as colourful as the surrounds.
The Flexicover Team explore some super cool dining interiors which are an absolute must visit if you are around this year.
Some of these make for a truly unique dining experience.
The Press Club; Melbourne, Australia
The larger than life interior is what makes this establishment really unique and the large gold ceiling design is a blend of cool and voluptuous and the organic shapes are made from brass, ply and 60s Ferrari leather. George Calombaris’s Greek fine dining establishment is open from Monday to Saturday and offers delicious four, six, and nine course menu options. The food is beautifully cooked and wonderfully presented. There’s also an Olympus menu which boasts 13 courses for the more adventurous! Whilst this may not be the cheapest restaurant, it’s a wonderful experience.
Hueso Restaurant; Guadalajara, Mexico
Hueso’s interior is lined with thousands of animal bones making this a super quaint place to dine. Bone-white tiles patterned with black linear design clad the exterior whilst animal carcasses decorate the inside walls. The 240ft interior was designed by Cadena + Asociados and is popular amongst locals and tourists alike. To keep in line with the décor, the menu includes unusual meaty offcuts like bone marrow and probably not ideal for vegetarians. Located in the quirky district and a must visit this year. P.S. even the kitchen orders are kept together between the broken ribs section of skeleton cast in metal!
Gamsei; Munich, Germany
Gamsei is a great cocktail bar to stop for a drink if in Munich this year. The bar which has been designed from solid oak uses organic materials and adheres to a ‘think-local, act-local’ ethos where both its food and cocktail ingredients come from local farmers. This fits well with the owner Matthew Baxs’ ethos to paying tribute to local Bavarian culture and craftsmanship. Even the bar designers Fabian A Wagner of Buero Wagner with Andreas Kreft are locals! All ingredients for the cocktails are from local artisan farmers and the majority of base liquors, schnapps and syrups are made-in house. White ceramic bottles hang from the ceiling giving this place a super cool look!
Mikkeller & Friends; Copenhagen, Denmark
The Mikkeller bar is a small, super cool place for beer enthusiasts as well as novices to enjoy a high quality micro brewed beer from Mikkeller and breweries around the world. The interior matches the quality of the drinks, combining the classic interior of old Danish pubs with modern and elegance. This bar is stylish and relaxed with a shiny turquoise floor, wooden tables and benches, gold knobs and lamps, dusky coloured flowers and a bright space. With more than 40 beers on tap, 200 bottled beers from around the world, gourmet cheese, great music and great service this is a wonderful bar in the heart of Vesterbro! A must visit!
Hubbox; Truro, Cornwall, UK
Located in a 19th century Wesleyan chapel and full of pop art and graffiti, Hubbox offers a great diner experience. Original buttresses and stained glass give lots of light and height and the menu offers American classics of burgers, hotdogs and pulled pork! Full of character and using the very best Cornish ingredients, Hubbox has proved to be very popular and had to move out of its small 20-seater shipping container location into this one! Inspired by the kitchens of the Williamsburg District in NY, this is a must try!!
