European Health Insurance Card ("EHIC")

If you are a UK resident, you are entitled to medical treatment that becomes necessary, at reduced cost or sometimes free, when temporarily visiting a European Union (EU) country, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland. Only treatment provided under the state scheme is covered. However, to obtain treatment you will need to take a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you. Please note: Not all UK residents are covered in Denmark, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland. Certain of our own policies will waive the excess charge if an EHIC is used in the event of a medical claim.

fitfortravel' is a public access website provided by the NHS (Scotland). It gives travel health information for people travelling abroad from the UK. Remember that you should always discuss your particular needs with your own doctor or nurse. The website is compiled by a team of experts from the Travel Health division at Health Protection Scotland (HPS).
Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO)- Travel Advice

Offers advice notices aimed to ensure that British travellers are well prepared before departure. The website also contains background information on how they decide what advice to give including answers to frequently asked questions on Travel Advice. Most insurance policies exclude cover to areas the FCO advise against visiting.
